Global Missions Focused

From the beginning God has been intent on bringing glory to His name and redeeming his children among the nations. In the Old Testament Abraham was told by God that he would be the father of many nations and that in his offspring, Jesus, all nations would be blessed. Israel was to be a light to the nations, set apart to proclaim the holiness of God. King David had a heart to declare the glory of God to the whole world. The prophets told of a time that was coming when the nations of the world would gather to worship the one true God. (Gen 17:4; Gen 26:4; Isaiah 49:6; 2 Sam 22:50; Psalm 22:27; Malachi 1:11)

When Jesus arrived the strategy was about change. No longer would God’s people stay in one place as a witness to the holiness and glory of the Lord, rather they would go to the nations. Jesus has commanded us to GO and share the gospel to the ends of the earth, making disciples of his sheep. As further incentive, as if we need one, Jesus encourages us by stating that his return will not happen until the gospel has been proclaimed to all of the nations. We work and wait to see this accomplished in order that we may witness the glorious prophecy fulfilled that all nations will come to worship His Holiness, for His Righteousness has been revealed. (Matt 24:14; Matt 28:19; Mark 13:10; Luke 24:46-47; Rev 15:4)

How do we do this? Paul in his letter to the Romans lays out a beautifully simplistic motivation for missions.

For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."  How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?   And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"   But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?"   So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:13-17)

We at Sovereign Joy Bible Church stand amazed that our God would use us and entrust such and honorable task to His Church. We do not take this lightly and are resolved to work both at home and abroad to assist in achieving this heavenly mandate. At home our members’ gifts and offerings are used to support those who have been called to the mission field. Also, our members view their world as a mission field. There are unreached people in our neighborhoods, jobs, families and communities. Finally we encourage members to prayerfully examine their calling to know if the Lord is drawing them to serve Him in unreached nations. This is done through partnerships with mission organizations, short-term mission trips and other mission related training.

We long to see our world reached for the glory of Jesus and for the joy of His people. True joy can only come from an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and it is our prayer and declaration with the psalmist “Let the nations be glad and sing for joy!” (Psalm 67:4)
